Just One Thing with Umaima Munir

Umaima Munir’s February issue flash “گم شدہ- Gumshuda (Lost, Missing)” is a tale of college rejections and memories of feeling small on a lazy Sunday in Lahore. Here she shares just one thing about the piece:

“The title of my piece ‘Gumshuda’ is an Urdu word that translates to lost or missing. I did actually get lost in a market and ended up sleeping in a corner shop. My mother, who has managed to go through life by turning every mundane thing into a spiritual experience, likes to say God watched over me (which, although a nice thought, seems too good to be true). Whether God intended it or not, I am still constantly reminded of my little excursion over family dinners to this day. The picture is one taken randomly by my brother while on a trip to old Lahore during a hasty hunt for a bathroom.”
