Split Lip Magazine's Statement on Palestine and Israel

Split Lip Magazine mourns the staggering loss of Palestinian and Israeli lives. We condemn in the strongest possible terms the ongoing bombing that has killed 10,000 Palestinians and injured and left homeless thousands more, as well as the blockade of humanitarian supplies by Israel in Gaza, which is creating a dire humanitarian crisis. We condemn in the strongest possible terms the massacre of October 7 that killed 1,400 Israelis and injured more, and we call for the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas. We condemn all forms of Islamophobia and Antisemitism proliferating in the US and elsewhere.

We support the calls for a ceasefire and an end to the genocide of and long-standing colonial violence against the Palestinian people. We support the rights of all people in the region to a place to live that is safe and free, without fear or threat of violence, and with full and complete rights to life, liberty, equality, and dignity.

All members of our staff are individuals with their own views, beliefs, backgrounds, and experiences, and we respect their right to raise their voices or to remain silent, as their own individual consciences and circumstances guide them. We are sensitive to the fact that we are a diverse group of people who do not agree on all matters.

We are a searching, thoughtful group that is trying our best to listen, learn, and read. We are all holding the injured and grieving, the scared and suffering in our hearts.
