Just One Thing with Richard Mirabella

Richard Mirabella’s April issue flash “Levittown” is a lyrical tale of a trip back home, a journey where past and present meet. Here he shares just one thing about the piece:

"I’m always trying to write about my home. You know how there are some things that you have to tick off your list? Write about this to move past it so you can get to the interesting stuff you don’t know much about? Discovering stuff is so much more fun.

I wrote LEVITTOWN by accident. Typed the word Levittown and started with my best friend: the only good thing about my memories of that place. Our favorite pastime was dancing to my records (yes, records), and ‘I Am the Warrior’ was in constant rotation.

It seems like all the subjects I try to make novels out of eventually become flash stories. What a stroke of luck to not have to write a novel. There’s not enough adequate language to talk about homophobia or friendship or home, I don’t think. "
