Just One Thing with Ally Ang

Ally Ang’s poem “From Holes We Emerged, and Into Holes We Shall Return” makes space for the space between things, invites us to peer inside. Here they share just one thing about the piece:

“Every poet has their obsessions, and holes are one of mine. They frequently appear as images in my poems, but I realized that I'd never written a hole-centric poem, and that's what sparked the idea to write this one. This poem emerged from a discussion with my dear friend Cass Garison about the poetics of holes and their erotic, transformative, abject, spiritual, transgressive potential. Holes reveal our greatest fears--particularly the fallibility and mutability of our bodies--and I wanted to confront the fear, discomfort, and desire that holes spark in me through this poem.”
