TINY MEMOIR: Finalists!

From memoir editor Krys Malcolm Belc:

So many thanks to the submitters who sent micro memoir to the Split Lip Magazine Anniversary Issue call! Although we love reading and editing “regular” memoir submissions, reading a stack of micros just strikes a different, wonderful, feisty note and our staff was so appreciative for the opportunity to see all that submitters could do with the flash form. We read hundreds of submissions, so many of which pushed the boundaries of what a writer can do in a tiny space.

Thank you to the Split Lip Magazine Memoir team readers who dedicated themselves to this special queue of micro work. Meeting on Zoom to read aloud the finalists and talk about their many merits was one of the highlights of my time as an editor. These pieces are all wonderful standouts.

And the finalists are:

  • Hadley Griggs - “In the Wal-Mart Parking Lot”

  • Kimberly Ramos - “I Was Here, Too”

  • Boloere Seibidor - “spirited”

  • Georgia White - “this is the body i was always afraid of having”

  • Sara Elkamel - “Renovation”

  • Eileen Collins - “Howl and Whisper”

  • Alysia Sawchyn - “White Boys in Florida”

  • Dina Relles - “On Going”

  • Tyler Raso - “Material History of the Closet [Soft-Serve Ice Cream]”
