Mitski just came through my part of the Midwest. My niece (hi, Cymry!) got to see her in Iowa City, and my student (hi, Lauren!) made it to the show in Kansas City. I wasn’t on-the-ball enough to score tickets, but I listened to Be the Cowboy a few times that week, imagining, with pain and exhilaration, the awesomeness of what I was missing.
If you don’t know this album: highest recommendation.
Also, follow Mitski on Twitter—especially if you’re a writer. You get stuff like this:

I recently finished Sandra Newman’s new novel, The Heavens. I love its prose, its sense of stressed-out romance, its humor, and its time travel conceit, which, while worked on its own terms, also reminded me of two personal favorites: Ursula K. Le Guin’s novel, The Lathe of Heaven, and Harlan Ellison’s short story, “The Beast that Shouted Love at the Heart of the World.” I highly recommend The Heavens if you are sad and at the mercy of the passage of time.
