Just One Thing with Theresa Pisani

Theresa Pisani’s artwork “A Summer Night at the Palace” lends the issue a particular quality of light, depth, and intrigue. Here she shares just one thing about the piece:

“It was a hot and humid night in August, and I got it in my head to do a painting of the Commander's Palace Restaurant in the Garden District, New Orleans. Instead of sitting across the street suffering in the heat for hours, I decided to get my partner, Alejandro, who is a professional photographer to photograph it for me, so he kindly grabbed his tripod and SLR, and we jumped on the streetcar and walked a couple of blocks to the restaurant. I spent the next 30 mins or so chatting with the security guard as Alejandro photographed it from across the street. There were quite a few cars parked in front, which I painted out later. ”

“This photo is a sort of an homage to Salvador Dali. It's myself floating through the air with a floating rabbit and chair, and foot stool. There is water being flung through the air in front of me and one of my paintings on an easel to the right.”
