Just One Thing with Maria Poulatha
Maria Poulatha’s October issue story “The Rooftops” is a sensory standoff between the North Man and the South Man. Here she shares just one thing about the piece:
“I was a dancer for much of my life so I am very aware of my character’s movements, even when they’re not explicitly on the page. I sometimes get up to play out the action and that was particularly fun with this piece, pitching things across the room and waltzing with imaginary scarecrows. But what I really enjoy—in dance, in stories and in daily life—are the quiet moments, where movements are controlled and suggestive and tiny gestures brim with tension. That's the good stuff.”
