Just One Thing with Marcie Friedman
We aren’t turning the page on August yet — not with an issue full of goodness like this one. And we are so thrilled to bring you this month’s featured short story, “In a State of Near Deletion,” from Marcie Friedman. Here, Marcie brings us just one photo of her four favorite coffee mugs and just one list (which is technically one thing!) about her story (we like her style):
“I’ve always struggled to answer “Just One” questions: favorite ice cream, book for a desert island, that iconic movie which defined your teenage years. So many choices! So many factors to consider! In the hopes that I’m not bucking the system, here’s a (singular) list of R.R.R.I.s (Retrospectively Recognized Random Inspirations) for “In A State of Near Deletion”:
“Virtual Insanity” by Jamiroquai
Dr. Seuss’ My Many Colored Days
Choose Your Own Adventure Book Series (okay, this one not so random)
Middle School
X-Files season 11, episode 07, “Rm9sbG93ZXJz”
Social Anxiety
Direct Marketing 314 my Junior year of college for no other reason than I’d like to think it was good for something.”
