Just One Thing with Jihoon Park
Jihoon Park’s February issue story “Van Gogh and the Lego Man” is a colorful meditation on beauty and mental health featuring a world famous artist and an anachronistic plastic toy. Here he shares just one thing about the piece:
“Even before ‘Van Gogh and the Lego Man,’ I had been wanting to write a story about a lego person for some time. There were many iterations of the character in many different stories but nothing fruitful ever came from him. I just had a really hard time making him come to life. Then one day I started writing a story about Vincent van Gogh, and I thought about how sad it must have been to go through life so misunderstood, and I wanted him to have a best friend. So I made the Lego Man his best friend and the rest of the story naturally followed.”
