Just One Thing with Caitie Karasik

Caitie Karasik’s story “Rob Bumble” contains a fabulous first date, roly-poly bugs, a favorite onion, and some deep longing .Here she shares just one thing about the piece:

“More than one early reader thought ‘Rob Bumble’ was a memoir piece! It’s pulling from snippets of moments and feelings I’ve known, and I like using a very confessional style of writing, but I've never crashed a funeral. Yet. We’ll see how the next date goes… I’m always trying to find a balance between the comedy and the meaning, not that comedy isn’t meaningful in itself, and with ‘Rob Bumble’ that balance came naturally. Your 20s are so funny, in retrospect of course, and your need to experience something “real” with ‘someone’ even if it’s ‘not,’ so crushing. I’m really grateful the Split Lip team let me explore both emotional states, in terms of tone and also substance. And again, no one is in my phone as Rob Bumble. For now.”
