Just One Thing with brittny ray crowell

In a sepia-toned photograph, a smiling young man holds a toddler-aged girl in his arms. They are on a grass lawn in front of a house

brittny ray crowell’s work, “Soul Glo,” gives us a portrait so fresh and tangible that you can reach out and run your fingers through it like the grass and chest hair she describes. Here she shares just one thing about the piece:

“This poem is based on one of my earliest memories which was actually captured in a picture. I distinctly remember looking down into my dad’s face as he lifted me up and then my mom took the picture. My daddy always used to tell us about how his friends made fun of him for his patched up basketball shoes, but I know not a one of them could ever out dress him. He’s always been so impeccably groomed and flawlessly cool.”
