About the Artist
After having been graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial education, I taught one year of graphic arts on the secondary education level, after which I left the teaching profession to work in the lithographic trade. I began painting rather late in life, although I have always loved to draw and sketch. I am a retired lithographer, having worked in the lithographic trade as a color separator and retoucher for over 40 years. I began painting as a way to relieve the stress of my daily work.
Throughout my years of working as a lithographer, I also taught vocational school part time, and, more recently, I taught a course in color theory and application for four years at Arizona State University.
While I was still employed, I sold many of my paintings to employees with whom I worked. Now, being retired, I have the time I require to devote to my art. My mediums of choice are oils and watercolors, and I enjoy each of them for their own, unique qualities and characteristics.
My work has received numerous awards, among which are included a First Place In Oils and Best Of Show at the Arizona State Fair, First Place In Oils, and Best Of Show at the Glendale Art Competition, and First Place In Oils at the Peoria Celebration Of Artists, with numerous Second Place and Honorable Mention awards, as well.
I enjoy painting in a realistic style, yet with enough creativity to enhance each subject with a bit more impact than would be offered by pure realism. Although I wish to have my paintings attract a viewer from a distance, I also like them to “read” well upon closer inspection, and to thus captivate the viewer from both viewpoints.
