Factory with Red Lights

An abstract architectural scene depicted in sweeping, luminescent cotton thread—mostly blue and green, with fiery accents. A factory with three peaked domes and glowing red orbs is centered against a background of bold geometric patterns.

Janet Stapelman (@janetstapelman) enjoyed her career as a scenic artist and member of IATSE local USA 829, specializing in backdrop painting for the Broadway theater. A proud resident of Brooklyn, NY, she retired in 2012 to the Outer Banks of North Carolina to live “life on a sandbar.” Her work takes her into a quiet “space” within herself where she explores color relationships, texture, shape, and the surprises of light falling on the twisted Perle Cotton she uses in her work.
